River Mouth to Ridgeline Tour of Dutch Bill Creek Watershed Projects
This field tour is part of the California Society for Ecological Restoration's (SERCAL) annual conference. It will focus on the Dutch Bill Watershed, a tributary of the lower Russian River where participants will see applied watershed restoration techniques, from instream structures, fish passage, dam removal, advanced road reshaping, upland headcut & fuel load mitigation, stormwater recharge, wildlife habitat enhancement, and community education and organizing. Dutch Bill is considered to be one of the most critical watersheds for the recovery of endangered coho salmon and steelhead in the Russian River.
Lunch will be outdoors at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center, there the 2nd half of the tour will take place. (Catered box lunches provided by SERCAL). Target audience is general watershed restoration practitioners, with a specific emphasis on instream and uplands salmonid restoration techniques (coho & steelhead), including instream habitat and pool structures, fish passage barrier removal, fish friendly roads, exotic plant species management, uplands erosion control, forest & fuel load management, rural stormwater management and community based watershed education and organizing efforts.
Please arrive at the Conference Center by 8:00a. Vans will depart the Center at 8:20a. Return to Conference Center at 5:40p. Van transportation and drivers are being donated by the Napa Office (Nate Ortiz) of the California Conservation Corps.
